Museum Fundraiser Was a Hotsy-Totsy Time

It was the bee’s knees or maybe even the cat’s meow.

The Chemainus Valley Historical Society’s Flappers & Fedoras Mocktails and Melodies gala fundraiser for the Chemainus Museum was the cat’s pajamas.

Society Big Cheese, Ron Waller, also known as the president of the organization, says about 50 people turned up for the Sept. 19 event.

“Everybody was in a good mood and 90 per cent of the people dressed up in 1920s style,” Waller said.

The Museum welcomed people on a red carpet and the guests enjoying singing along to ‘20s music accompanied by the Museum’s player piano.

Waller credits leader flapper Trina Lambert for pulling everything together.

In 1920s Prohibition era tradition, the partygoers in this Juice Joint sipped non-alcoholic punches and munched on sandwiches and goodies.

A silent auction with items provided by Chemainus businesses, and a 50/50 draw added to the fun and the cash raised for the Museum.

“It looks like we raised about $2,500,” estimates Waller, who is no dewdropper himself. (You’ll have to look that one up)

Operated by the Chemainus Valley Historical Society, a non-profit organization, the Museum is located in the centre of town with a nearby lookout providing visitors with a view of the mill below.
