Tour de Rock Riders Coming Our Way

Tour de Rock riders on the road
The Tour de Rock riders have been on the road for over a week after beginning their gruelling journey in Port Hardy.

The annual Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock is underway with the team making stops in Ucluelet and Tofino over the weekend before heading back to the east side of the Island.

On Monday, Sept. 29, the riders will arrive in Chemainus for a fundraiser lunch at the Legion. The public is encouraged to come out and support the riders on their journey that will take them from Port Hardy to Victoria over a two-week period.

Doors open at 11:30 at the Legion and the team is expected to arrive shortly after noon and stay for about an hour.

Will Arnold Cops for Cancer
Will Arnold has been having lots of fund and raising an impressive amount of cash for Cops for Cancer.

The goal this year is to raise $1 million and as of Friday morning the rides have raised more than $374,000 or 37% of the target.

North Cowichan’s Will Arnold, owner of Experience Cycling, and his team have raised $33,944, good for second place on the fundraising list.

Cops for Cancer began in 1994 with one police officer who wanted to make a difference. Ever since, it’s grown into a united effort across Canada and has become one of the largest fundraising events for childhood cancer research in the country.

As a partnership between first responders and the Canadian Cancer Society, the annual event has raised nearly $56 million to increase survival rates and support children living with cancer and their families.
