The Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society has a plan to help aspiring songwriters get their song out to the world.
The CVCAS is working with Instructor Michael Holland to offer a two-part workshop on March 31 and April 7 at the Chemainus Legion.
“If you feel a song in your heart and want to have a go at writing your own, this songwriting workshop is for you,” says the CVCAS.
“Whether it’s Bob Dylan, Taylor Swift, Metallica, or the latest Broadway musical that inspires you, learn to study the craft and techniques used in the songs you love from a writer’s perspective.”

Now living on Vancouver Island, Holland is a versatile performer, songwriter, producer and engineer.
Born in Kent, Holland says he cut his teeth in London England from 1977-1999 as a live and studio musician.
“Songcraft has always been a part of me, and now I am devoted to it,” explains Holland. “I have studied many genres up close.”
He lists Bob Dylan, Dixie Chicks, Keith Urban, Paul Simon, Bryan Adams and “all of the Beatles” as his influencers.
The workshop, which will be five hours in length over two evenings, will help aspiring writers learn the techniques used in the songs they love from a writer’s perspective.
Participants are asked to bring a pen and paper and a recording device such as a smartphone. An electric keyboard will be available for piano or organ playing, and participants may bring their own guitar or other acoustic instrument.
This workshop will have 2 parts. Part one is Monday, March 31 6:30-9 p.m. Part two will be held on Monday, April 7 6:30-9 p.m.
