Kin Beach Improvements Have the Park Looking Great

Thanks to the work and financial contributions of the Chemainus Rotary Club, Kin Beach Park has never looked better.

This week Club members were up early one morning to help with the pouring of concrete for a new sidewalk leading to the recently completed washrooms and picnic shelter. A couple days later sod was laid alongside the new sidewalk.

Chemainus Rotary Club members completed another project this week.

With the new washrooms built by the Municipality of North Cowichan, improvements to the playground and the addition of the picnic shelter, the popular destination for residents and visitors is seeing lots of visitors.

The local Rotary Club, like many service clubs, has suffered from a declining membership in recent years. But that hasn’t stopped the club that was formed in 1950 from tackling an amazing list of community projects in addition to its efforts on the international front.

Kin Beach Park has been a priority in recent years, but the Club is also responsible for the installation of Hul’q’uminum language signage at Wul’aam Park, upgrades to the boat launch and the creation of the Chemainus labyrinth in Waterwheel Park. Many of these projects were possible through the cooperation of other organizations, including the Chemainus Festival of Murals Society, working closely with Rotary.

Rotary volunteers met the concrete truck and got to work pouring a new sidewalk.

If you would like to help Rotary in its work, you can start by donating refundable containers at the regular Saturday bottle drop. Donations are accepted at the Rotary bunker across from Subway on Chemainus Road between 10 a.m and 2 p.m.
