The Chemainus Library’s Storywalk starts on October. 25. The featured book is Mushroom Rain by Laura K. Zimmermann.

Come rain or shine, it’s going to be a day for family fun in Chemainus.

Krystal Adams and her team at the Chemainus Business Improvement Association have lined up an exciting day of events. The events take place at Waterwheel Park in downtown Chemainus.

“Get ready for a delicious and heartwarming experience at the Chili for Charity Cook-Off,” says Adams.

“You can sample a diverse range of chilis from local chefs and business owners, with options to satisfy every palate.  Whether you’re a chili connoisseur or just here for the fun, bring the family, share a meal, and warm up your day.

“All proceeds go toward supporting the Chemainus Harvest House.”

An old-fashioned pie baking contest with the winner going home with $100 will start at 1 p.m.

“We’re excited to judge two categories: Apple and Pumpkin,” says Adams. “Whether you’re a pie-making pro or a passionate home baker, your creations could win top honours.”

In keeping with the Halloween season, there will be a pumpkin carving contest. This event is open to first-time carvers or seasoned pros.

“This is your chance to show off your skills and celebrate the season with the community,” Adams says. “Bring them to be judged and take them home after.”

There will be three categories in this competition and pumpkins will be judged based on creativity, originality, and overall design. Prizes will be awarded to the top pumpkin in each age category.
