From opening night on, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has been wowing audiences at the Chemainus Theatre Festival.
Audiences are leaving the theatre calling the summer musical the best production they have ever seen at the theatre.
Director Naomi Costain thinks she knows why Dirty Rotten Scoundrels has been so popular.
“It is much more than a story about con artists,” explains Costain. “It’s about the thrill of the ride and bringing the audience along for that roller coaster. There is an element of willing complicity from both the cons and their victims, and the audience, where everyone gets caught up in the excitement of the game.
“There are moments of fully breaking the fourth wall, allowing the audience in on the action and the humour.”
If you haven’t seen Scoundrels yet, there is still time to catch a performance, but time is running out.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels runs until Sunday, August 23, your last chance to cheer for the bad guys in this energetic and hilarious show that has been giving audience what they want and more all summer.
Up next for the Chemainus Theatre Festival is Peril in the Alps, a fresh take on an Agatha Christie detective story. Peril in the Alps opens September 25 and runs for a full month.
Audiences will be delighted to see the beloved character of Hercule Poirot with a twist. With only six cast members performing nearly 30 roles, the quick changes and incredible comedic timing in this class mystery setting is a guaranteed madcap whodunit thrill ride.
On another front, tickets for the Zachary Stevenson Cabaret taking place in September sold out in just three days.
Hugely popular in Chemainus where he performed last weekend at Waterwheel Park, Stevenson will be at the Theatre for a cabaret style concert series in the Playbill Dining Room between Sept. 9 and Sept. 13.
