Chemainus Classic Car Club Finds Cool Place For Summer Gatherings on Wednesdays

The Chemainus Classic Car Club has found a new home for its regular Wednesday meet and members couldn’t be happier.

Following the closure of the Chemainus Public Market earlier this year, coordinators Jodie and Mark Phillips set their sights on Waterwheel Park across from the former Market. With the cooperation of the Municipality of North Cowichan, the club was given permission to use the parking lot on Willow Street.

It has worked out swell, with more than 30 cars showing up for last night’s meet and many visitors browsing through the collection and visiting with the owners.

“We’ve got enchanting vintage, muscle rides, limiteds, high performance, hot rods, and rat rods,” notes Jodie.

“It’s a beautiful location in scenic Chemainus; good restaurants nearby and yummy handmade ice cream at Scoops By the Sea,” she adds.

The Club meets every Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Jodie says new members are welcome to join even if their vehicle has yet to hit the 25-year, classic age.

“You are welcome to join us! ‘specials’, ‘limiteds’, a restoration in progress, modified, cool fab work, or simply ‘sentimental’ works for us. If you enjoy, respect, restore, tune and shine your ride, please join the Club,” Jodie says.

Jodie says getting involved in the Chemainus Classic Car Club is an opportunity to meet car owners who care. Some are masters in mechanics, fabrication, bodywork, or automobile history.

“You can learn about historic rides, share your modern knowledge and trade skills. All car enthusiasts, are warmly welcome to browse, take photos, check under the hood, or chat with friendly owners.”
