For more than 120 years, the Chemainus Health Care Auxiliary has been serving the community, raising funds for much-needed equipment. The work began in 1899 and has continued ever since. A new 10-bed hospital was opened in Chemainus in May of 1900 and was fully equipped by the Hospital Auxiliary. A dedicated corps of volunteers continues to raise money through the operation of its Thrift Store on Maple Street in Old Town Chemainus. Largely through the efforts of the Auxiliary and the Chemainus Health Care Foundation, Chemainus offers first-rate health care services for its residents.
