Art lovers are in for a special treat tomorrow and Sunday as several Chemainus artists are participating in this weekend’s Spring Art Escape.
The two-day self-guided tour in Ladysmith and Chemainus features over 150 artists at 17 locations. Art lovers are invited to visit studios and galleries in the area, meet the artists and learn more about their work.
The Chemainus Arts Group members will be displaying paintings, sculptures and art cards in the auditorium of the Saltair Community Centre.
Artist Connie Manning, who painted the tenth anniversary mural, The Lumber Barons, will be welcoming visitors to her studio, Connemara, at 9920 Cedar Street in Chemainus. Manning is a portrait artist, and her focus is on figurative subjects – people and pets – and still life, primarily soft pastel, graphite pencil and oils.
Laura Gosnell describes her work as functional pottery inspired by the west coast. Her studio is at 2884 Laurel St. in Chemainus.
More than 40 artists, members of Rainforest Arts, will have their work on display at the gallery at 9781 Willow Street in downtown Chemainus.
Steen Hjort, who creates turned local wood, will be open at the Wood Room, 10751 Chemainus Road.
Lorna Ball says, “my art looks like a painting, but instead of paint strokes, I use shards of stained glass.” Ball’s studio is at 9422 Chemainus Road.
The tour runs on Saturday and Sunday, April 12 and 13, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Spring Art Escape is organized by Art Council of Ladysmith and District.
