Operations at the Western Forest Products owned Chemainus Sawmill have shut down.
The company confirmed that work at the mill was “temporarily curtailed” on March 24.
“The primary drivers behind this curtailment are ongoing log supply availability challenges and difficult market conditions which we have been navigating for some time,” explained Babita Khunkhun, senior director of communications for Western Forest Products.
The Chemainus mill produces high quality products for the U.S., European and Canadian markets.
Khunkhun says 130 workers are impacted by the curtailment.
“We’re continuing to monitor conditions to determine when operations will resume.”
